At Judo Monthly we bring this most popular martial art form to life with all the latest news, happenings and matches in the World of Judo. In each issue we will discuss the competitive nature of the sport and look into its winning tactics and techniques. Judo is one of the more modern martial arts. Judo, in its modern form, was developed by Dr. Jigoro Kano, who sought a way to defend oneself. The technique’s antecedents were various other forms developed by the Japanese for their military. The word Judo means “The Gentle Way” and has developed as a competitive fighting form depending mostly on throws, locks and submission techniques and specialized throws. There are occasions when kicks and chops may be employed, but those are not a part of the official competition forms. Judo is taught and used by many country’s military; many of the world’s police forces also use it for its efficient submission techniques. At Judo Monthly we respect martial arts and all the fighting arts from around the world and strive to bring you information as well as enjoyment each and every month. And, of course, our subscriptions are free. Ron McDonald
